Origins of the Great War
University Center | Wednesday, May 7 • 1pm
Instructor: Frank Valentino • World History
The seemingly interminable Great War-conflict engulfed all of Europe as well as (later) the U.S. in a bloody war of attrition. This class will focus on the decades-long origins of this conflict within the interwoven relationships among the various monarchies, their loyalties, ambitions and failings. Mr. Valentino looks beyond superficial understanding of how the war began to create a deeper understanding of the economic, political and military forces that gave rise to the war, illuminating what has often been misunderstood.
